With the aim of encouraging the gay community to go to bars and clubs to raise money for the annual Pride London march and rally, an image of attractive guys posing in a club was the intention. Shooting it in a real club would be difficult and potentially hazardous so a composite image was called for. The guys were photographed in a bar.
This was lit to complement the lighting of the 'background' shot of a real club with orange light to the left of shot, and magenta to the right.
The guys were cut out of the bar image and placed on the background image. Note the light spill on their bodies and clothes which is key to the realistic composite working.
The delicate and subtle work of blending the cut-out into the shot was completed and there we had it. Subtly blending edges or not as required to ensure a lifelike appearance.
